How to Transfer Your Website From Host To Host

webmail shaw hosting

Before you move your website to a new host, you will need to complete a few steps. Backing up your website is one of them. Moving files and changing the DNS settings will also be part of it.

Contact your new host to change the nameservers of your domain so that they point to their servers. This process could take a couple of hours or a whole day, depending upon your new hosting company and how fast they can propagate the changes.

Once the server is set up, you can begin transferring site files and database. Depending on how structured your site is, this task can be quick and simple. FileZilla is a good tool to use if you want to transfer static HTML websites (sites without a database).

If you have dynamic sites, (sites with a database), then you will need to export the data from your old host and import them into your new host. This can either be done through phpMyAdmin or using the tools provided in cPanel.

Create your own hosting account

Once the transfer is complete, you will need to create an account with your new host. It will give you access to manage your site and gain access with a username and a password. This can be done from your new host's control panel or by contacting the customer service team.

Transferring your domain

If your domain was already registered at DreamHost you can use the authorization code EPP/transfer provided by your old registrar. The code should be available on your current registrar's "Transfer Service" page or within your Control Panel's "Domains". You will need to contact the new registrar if it's not there.

Your new IPS tag

If you are transferring your domain from DreamHost to a different registrar, you will need to get your new registrar's IPS tag. This can be found on your current registry's registrar page under 'transfers.' You can also find it at the top of the panel in your Domains> section.

Alternatively, contact the new registry and ask them to email you your IPS Tag. Make sure you clarify that this is a domain transfer and not a registration change.

Testing your site

It is important to test everything to make sure it works. This will allow for you to identify potential issues that could arise with the new host. It is important to test your menus, internal links and all other small details.

Backups and databases

It is a good practice to backup any data you may need to access for a few days after your domain is moved to the new host. This will ensure that your site is up and running as soon as possible. Cloudflare or Bitnami is a good way to accomplish this.

Can I make my website using HTML and CSS?

Yes! Yes!

You're now familiar with the basics of creating a website structure. However, you must also learn HTML and CSS Coding.

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language. It is similar to writing a recipe. It would include ingredients, instructions, as well as directions. Similarly, HTML tells a computer which parts of text appear bold, italicized, underlined, or linked to another part of the document. It is the language used to describe documents.

CSS stands for Cascading Style sheets. Think of it like a style sheet for recipes. Instead of listing all ingredients and instructions, you simply write down the basic rules for things such as font sizes, colors or spacing.

HTML tells the browser how a page should look; CSS tells it what to do.

Don't panic if either of these terms are confusing to you. Follow these steps to make beautiful websites.
